the end of every story (2013-2015)
pigment ink fineliner on paper

All over the world, every day, people are being killed. As lives end, so do the stories of the individuals that lived them. We have different stories, but share a common fate. Everything is fleeting and so are our lives, our stories.   This work is about the temporality of our existence. It is an attempt to comprehend the immense number of stories that ended in the gas chamber of Auschwitz Birkenau. The aim of this death camp was to exterminate individuals, one by one. Eventually, like a factory, the process of killing became in itself more and more mechanized. The action of placing dot after dot on a paper symbolizes this development. An estimated 800,000 to 1,000,000 people lost their lives in this extermination camp. Of most of these people we only know how their story ended. The rest is destroyed, forgotten or lost. This work is a remembrance. One life, one dot.
